Coral Creek Club
Coral Creek Club is just before the tiny fishing village of Placida, where you make the turn to go over the toll bridge to Gasparilla Island and Boca Grande.
Only a few cottage style homes surround the Tom Fazio designed golf course which opened in 2001. This 18-hole championship course is situated on 211 acres and laid out with southern pines, oaks and palms interspersed with shimmering lakes and emerald green fairways. Several holes even offer water views across the mangroves so the feeling is one of harmony with nature.
Take your camera since you are likely to spot some Florida wildlife or outstanding vistas.
Membership is by invitation only and limited to 225 members. The golf pro is on hand to give pointers, and a first-rate practice facility is available.
Casual elegance defines the atmosphere at Coral Creek with old Florida architecture the main theme.
After a game of golf, you want to enjoy the fine dining indoors or outdoors at the clubhouse.
Leaving, you may cross the picturesque Coral Creek estuary which flows out into Charlotte Harbor. Historic Boca Grande, a secluded island for the rich and famous, is just around the corner. Drive down the main road to the famous Boca Grande lighthouse at the end of the island. President Bush and his family often vacationed at the old Gasparilla Inn.
Across the street from Coral Cove is one of the largest marinas on the west coast, Gasparilla Marina. Hundreds of boats are berthed there.
